Thread and Fabric Color Ideas

The published product page does not provide an original numbered Madeira color chart. The following colors are recommendations rather than original chart colors.

One selected top-thread color embroiders the complete ornament. Screen colors are approximate and will vary with the thread finish, lighting and monitor settings.

What to Embroider with This Islamic Ornament

• the central panel of a decorative cushion cover;
• a framed textile panel or wall hanging;
• the upper decorative area of a prayer mat;
• a wide Ramadan or Eid table runner;
• the center of a large tablecloth;
• a quilt, bedspread or patchwork block;
• a curtain or decorative fabric panel;
• the front panel of a large tote bag or fabric basket;
• prayer-room and Islamic home décor.

The ornament is almost 20 cm square, so it works best as a central statement motif. Embroider it on a flat fabric panel before assembling a cushion, lined bag, fabric basket or other constructed item.

The design is geometric and floral and does not contain Arabic calligraphy. It may therefore be coordinated with other Ramadan and Eid decorations without the placement restrictions associated with sacred written text.

Fabric, Stabilizer and Needle

For regular rayon or polyester embroidery thread, begin with a 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle selected for the fabric. Hoop the material without stretching it and support the weight of the large hoop during embroidery.

Using Gold Metallic Thread

This line-based ornament is suitable for a metallic effect, but the complete 36330-stitch design must be tested before embroidering the final project.

• begin with a Metallic NM 90/14 needle;
• reduce the machine speed to approximately 350–400 stitches per minute;
• reduce upper-thread tension gradually if required;
• allow the thread to unwind freely without twisting or catching;
• replace a damaged or rough needle immediately;
• use firm stabilization to prevent the large ornament from shifting.

If easy stitching and wash durability are more important than metallic shine, use gold rayon or polyester thread instead. Detailed settings are explained in the metallic machine embroidery thread guide.

Before Stitching

1. Open the selected machine format and confirm that the file measures 196.3x196.3 mm.
2. Use a hoop with a real embroidery field of at least 200x200 mm.
3. Make a complete test stitch using the intended fabric, stabilizer, needle and thread.
4. Support the large hoop so its weight does not pull against the machine carriage.
5. Do not reduce the design automatically to fit a smaller hoop. Resizing can change stitch length, registration and the appearance of the fine ornamental lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this design fit a 5x7 hoop?

No. The file measures 196.3x196.3 mm and requires a true 200x200 mm embroidery field.

Does Redwork have to be embroidered in red?

No. Redwork traditionally uses red thread, but this single-color ornamental design can be stitched in gold, white, silver, green, blue or another contrasting color.

Can I embroider it in gold on green fabric?

Yes. Classic or antique gold looks especially effective on emerald and forest-green fabric. Gold also creates strong contrast on dark navy, black and burgundy.

Can I use genuine metallic thread?

Yes, after a complete test stitch. Use a metallic needle, reduce the embroidery speed and adjust the upper tension gradually. Gold rayon or polyester is easier to embroider when metallic shine is not essential.

Can the design be reduced for a smaller hoop?

Substantial automatic reduction is not recommended. It can shorten stitches excessively and damage the clarity of the detailed geometric lines.

What stabilizer should I use?

Firm cut-away stabilizer is the safest option for this large 36330-stitch design. Medium tear-away may be tested on stable woven fabric when a cleaner reverse side is required.

Is this Arabic calligraphy?

No. This is a symmetrical geometric and floral ornament without Arabic lettering.

Is this a finished embroidered product?

No. This is a downloadable digital file for a computerized embroidery machine. Fabric, thread and finished products are not included.
