An asymmetric L-shaped corner motif. Long fir branches and fine olive-gold twigs grow out from the lower-left corner. Dark green holly leaves and clusters of round red berries form the centre of the composition, which is directed inward across a table runner, napkin or cushion cover.

Placing the Corner
The motif is made for the lower-left corner: the long fir branches should follow the two edges of the item, while the open side of the composition points toward its centre. On a runner or napkin, mark the finished corner lines first, place the printed template for the selected size at 100% scale and mark the centre of the whole outline. Hoop the fabric before hemming, or leave enough fabric beyond the outline for the final edge finish.
Questions and Answers
How should I choose stabilizer for a linen runner or napkin?
For firm linen, use the fabric weight divided by 3 as a starting point for the total backing weight. For example, 180 g/m² linen needs roughly 60 g/m² of total support. Test on the same linen first: the dense berry and leaf sections should lie flat without drawing the fabric inward.
How can I embroider the corner on a finished runner that cannot be hooped?
Hoop self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer, score only its protective layer inside the hoop and place the runner on top without stretching it. Align the marked corner, then run the machine trace before stitching. Temporary adhesive can hold slippery layers together, but it does not replace proper backing stabilizer.
Do I need water-soluble topping?
It is usually unnecessary on smooth linen or cotton. Add a water-soluble topping only on textured, loose or piled surfaces, where fine fir tips and small details can sink between fibres. Remove the remaining film according to the stabilizer instructions after embroidery.
