Ornate Pomegranate Machine Embroidery Design is a decorative fruit motif composed of elegant filigree elements. It belongs to the Royal Present Ornate Embroidery Designs collection and can be combined with matching ornamental fruits and vegetables to create coordinated kitchen linens, table décor, wall panels and restaurant textiles.

The pomegranate is traditionally associated with abundance, prosperity, family unity and hospitality. Its expressive shape makes this design suitable for decorative towels, napkins, placemats, table runners, aprons, cushions, curtains and framed textile art.

What embroidery hoop fits this design?

The minimum suitable hoop is 100x100 mm (4x4 inches). The design measures 73.1x80.4 mm, so it does not fit an 80x80 mm hoop.

It can also be centered in larger hoops, including:

  • 100x170 mm (3.94x6.69 inches);
  • 130x180 mm (5.12x7.09 inches, commonly called 5x7).

The design can be embroidered on Brother, Baby Lock, Janome, Bernina, Husqvarna Viking, Pfaff and other computerized embroidery machines that support one of the included file formats and have an embroidery field of at least 100x100 mm (4x4 inches).

Polyester or rayon thread: which should you choose?

Your thread choice should depend on how the finished item will be used. Choose polyester embroidery thread for kitchen towels, aprons, napkins, children’s clothing and other textiles that will be washed frequently. Choose rayon or viscose thread when softness and an elegant, silk-like sheen are the main priorities.

Feature Polyester thread Rayon / viscose thread
Appearance Bright, clean and consistent sheen Soft, fluid and naturally glossy silk-like sheen
Durability More resistant to repeated washing, rubbing and everyday wear Best protected from intensive rubbing, chlorine bleach and harsh washing
Best uses Towels, aprons, table linens, children’s clothes and hospitality textiles Decorative napkins, cushions, curtains, bed linen, framed panels and gifts

For frequently washed projects, a 40-weight polyester thread such as Madeira Polyneon is the practical choice. Madeira Classic rayon or another quality viscose thread will give the ornamental details a softer hand and a more luxurious, luminous finish.

Madeira colors and substitutes from other brands

The included color chart is based on Madeira threads. When using Isacord, Sulky, Gunold, Robison-Anton or another brand, select colors by their visible hue and brightness rather than copying the Madeira number. Thread numbers are not universal between manufacturers.

For a natural pomegranate palette, combine:

  • deep wine or burgundy for the darkest details;
  • garnet red or crimson for the main color;
  • ruby or warm red for the middle tone;
  • soft coral or rose red for highlights.

Compare physical thread shade cards in neutral daylight whenever possible. Colors displayed on a computer or phone screen may differ from the actual thread. If your embroidery software does not contain the required palette, read about converting thread colors with My Editor embroidery software.

Stabilizer and needle recommendations

For cotton, linen and other stable woven fabrics, hoop the fabric together with a medium-weight stabilizer without stretching it. A permanent cut-away stabilizer is preferable for towels, napkins and garments that will be washed repeatedly because it continues to support the stitches after laundering.

For terry towels, add a water-soluble topper over the fabric so the ornamental details do not sink into the pile. A 75/11 embroidery needle is suitable for most medium-weight woven fabrics and 40-weight polyester or rayon thread. Always test the complete combination of fabric, stabilizer, needle and thread before embroidering the finished item.

More information about permanent support for washable projects is available in the guide to choosing machine embroidery stabilizers.

How to care for polyester embroidery

  • Follow the care requirements of the base fabric first.
  • Use a mild detergent and avoid unnecessary chlorine bleach.
  • Wash garments inside out to reduce friction against the embroidery.
  • Avoid excessive dryer heat.
  • Iron from the reverse through a pressing cloth instead of placing a hot iron directly on the stitches.
  • Store the item clean and completely dry, away from direct sunlight and damp conditions.

How to care for rayon or viscose embroidery

  • Use a cool, gentle washing cycle or hand wash when permitted by the fabric.
  • Do not use chlorine bleach.
  • Do not wring, scrub or rub the embroidered area.
  • Dry in the shade and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Iron from the wrong side at a low temperature with a pressing cloth.
  • Store flat or loosely folded in a dry, breathable cotton bag or with acid-free tissue paper.
  • Do not place the item in sealed storage while it is even slightly damp.

For additional information about polyester thread properties and care, see the Royal Present guide to Isacord polyester embroidery threads.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a garnet gemstone or a pomegranate design?

This is an ornamental pomegranate fruit. The deep garnet-red color palette inspired the original product name, but “pomegranate” describes the motif more accurately.

What is the minimum hoop size for this pomegranate design?

The minimum suitable hoop is 100x100 mm (4x4 inches). The design does not fit an 80x80 mm hoop because one side measures 80.4 mm.

Should I use polyester or rayon thread for embroidered towels?

Use polyester thread for towels that will be washed frequently. It withstands repeated laundering and rubbing better than rayon. Add a water-soluble topper when embroidering terry cloth.

Which embroidery thread has the most elegant shine?

Rayon or viscose thread produces a soft, naturally glossy, silk-like sheen. Polyester also has an attractive shine, but its main advantage is greater durability.

Can I replace Madeira thread with another brand?

Yes. Match each color visually using physical shade cards. Do not select the same number automatically because Madeira, Isacord, Sulky, Gunold and other manufacturers use different numbering systems.

What stabilizer should I use for frequently washed embroidery?

Use a permanent cut-away stabilizer appropriate for the weight of the fabric. It remains behind the embroidery and supports the stitches after repeated washing.

How do I prevent puckering around this ornamental design?

Hoop the fabric and stabilizer securely without stretching them, use a sharp 75/11 embroidery needle and test the design on a fabric sample. Dense or flexible fabrics may require a firmer cut-away stabilizer.

Can this design be combined with other ornamental fruits?

Yes. It was created as part of an ornamental collection and works well with matching orange, lemon, strawberry, dragon fruit and tomato motifs on coordinated kitchen and dining textiles.
