Rose Richelieu Corner Machine Embroidery Design combines sculpted roses, leaves and traditional openwork bridges in an elegant corner composition. The design creates a shaped cutwork edge suitable for napkins, tablecloths, runners and heirloom household linens.

This is a Richelieu cutwork design embroidered directly on fabric. During embroidery, the fabric inside the programmed openwork areas must be cut manually. It is not a freestanding lace design.

This listing contains digital files for computerized embroidery machines. Fabric, thread and finished embroidered products are not included.

Design Information

Size: 150.0x141.0 mm (5.91x5.55 "), Stitches: 15979
Size: 199.6x187.6 mm (7.86x7.39 "), Stitches: 20866
Formats: .dst, .jef, .pec, .vip, .hus, .pes, .sew, .exp, .dat, .vp3, .xxx

  • technique: Richelieu cutwork machine embroidery;
  • recommended thread: No. 40 rayon or polyester embroidery thread;
  • recommended needle: 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle;
  • recommended stabilizer: heavy fabric-type water-soluble stabilizer.

The smaller file requires an actual embroidery field of at least 150x150 mm (5.91x5.91 "). It does not fit a 130x180 mm (5x7 ") or 140x200 mm (5.5x8 ") field.

The larger file requires an actual embroidery field of at least 200x200 mm (7.87x7.87 "). It does not fit a 180x300 mm (7.09x11.81 ") field because both orientations exceed the available 180 mm width.

Madeira Thread Sequence

Color Madeira thread Embroidery sequence
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 No. 1004 Natural White
Natural white rayon embroidery thread
Used for technical blocks 1 and 3. These blocks extend across the complete corner and must remain in their programmed positions.
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 No. 1014 Bermuda Sand Pink
Muted powder-pink rayon embroidery thread
Used for technical block 2 across the complete composition rather than as a separate rose or leaf color.

The design may be embroidered entirely in one color, as shown on the blue napkin. Keep the same thread in the machine, but preserve every programmed stop and color block. Do not merge or automatically color-sort the sequence.

Screen colors are approximate. Use a physical Madeira color card when an exact thread match is required.

Projects for the Rose Richelieu Corner

  • table and tea napkin corners;
  • all four corners of a tablecloth;
  • both ends of a table runner;
  • placemats and tray cloths;
  • linen and decorative guest towels;
  • pillowcases and bed linen;
  • curtains and decorative textile panels;
  • wedding and holiday table linens.

For a matching napkin set, use the same design size and maintain an equal distance from both fabric edges. For a tablecloth, rotate the original design by 90, 180 and 270 degrees without changing its scale.

How to Embroider the Richelieu Corner

  1. Prewash, dry and press the fabric before cutting the project pieces.
  2. Mark the corner and design center using a template printed at 100% scale.
  3. Hoop the fabric with a heavy fabric-type water-soluble stabilizer. Thin water-soluble topping film is not sufficient as the only stabilizer.
  4. Begin embroidery and follow every programmed stop in the file.
  5. At the cutting stop, remove the hoop from the machine without unhooping the fabric.
  6. Carefully cut the fabric inside the marked openwork areas. Do not cut the stabilizer or stitched outlines.
  7. For the shaped outer edge shown in the photographs, trim the excess fabric outside the programmed contour.
  8. Return the hoop to the machine and complete the embroidery. The final satin borders cover and secure the raw fabric edges.
  9. Remove loose threads and dissolve the stabilizer according to its manufacturer’s instructions.

Follow the programmed stops rather than relying only on the displayed thread number. Different machine formats and embroidery programs may interpret technical color blocks differently.

Fabric, Stabilizer and Needle

Material Recommendation
Linen, cotton or calico Stable woven fabrics produce clean openings. Use a heavy water-soluble stabilizer capable of supporting the bridges after the fabric has been cut.
Light napkin fabric Do not stretch the material during hooping. Temporarily secure it to the stabilizer if necessary.
Loosely woven fabric Complete a test stitch because the cut edges can fray before the final satin border covers them.

Begin with a new 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle selected for the fabric weight. For reversible table linens, use bobbin thread matching or closely coordinating with the upper thread.

Detailed stabilization guidance is available in Choosing Stabilizers for Machine Embroidery – Part 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the smaller size fit a 130x180 mm (5x7 ") hoop?

No. The file measures 150.0x141.0 mm (5.91x5.55 "). After rotation, its width would still be 141.0 mm (5.55 "), exceeding a 130 mm (5.12 ") embroidery field.

Does it fit a 140x200 mm (5.5x8 ") embroidery field?

No. Without rotation, the file is 150.0 mm (5.91 ") wide. After rotation, it is still 141.0 mm (5.55 ") wide. An actual field of at least 150x150 mm (5.91x5.91 ") is required.

Does the larger size fit a 180x300 mm (7.09x11.81 ") hoop?

No. The file measures 199.6x187.6 mm (7.86x7.39 "). Even after rotation, one side exceeds the available 180 mm (7.09 ") field. It requires a 200x200 mm (7.87x7.87 ") field or larger.

Can I embroider the corner in one color?

Yes. Leave the same thread in the machine, but preserve every programmed stop and technical color block.

Does the embroidery machine cut the fabric automatically?

No. At the programmed stop, the fabric inside the marked areas must be cut carefully by hand without removing it from the hoop.

Is this a freestanding lace design?

No. This is a Richelieu cutwork design embroidered on fabric. It is not intended to produce freestanding lace using only water-soluble stabilizer.

Can I resize the design for a smaller hoop?

Significant automatic reduction is not recommended. It can alter satin-stitch width, stitch length and the strength of the openwork bridges. A professionally modified embroidery file is required for another size.

How do I open the downloaded ZIP archive?

Extract the archive on a computer and transfer only the format required by your embroidery machine. If necessary, use the free Royal Present online unzip tool.
