Oval Laurel Wreath Monogram Frame with Bow Machine Embroidery Design is a one-color digital embroidery file featuring an open oval wreath of satin-stitched laurel leaves finished with a ribbon bow. The open center can be personalized with an initial, monogram or small inscription, making the design suitable for wedding linens, towels, napkins, pillowcases and personalized gifts.

The download contains two design sizes. The monogram letter shown in the stitched examples is not included and must be purchased or added separately.

Exact sizes, stitch counts and hoop compatibility

Version Exact design size and stitches Required embroidery field
Small 109.4 × 128.1 mm
4.31 × 5.04 in
Approximately 16,398 stitches
130 × 180 mm
5.12 × 7.09 in, commonly called a 5 × 7 hoop
Large 128.2 × 150.1 mm
5.05 × 5.91 in
Approximately 18,950 stitches
Full 130 × 180 mm field
5.12 × 7.09 in

Important 5 × 7 hoop note: both versions require a machine with a genuine 130 × 180 mm usable embroidery field. The large version is 128.2 mm wide, so it fits within a full 130 mm field but has only 1.8 mm of total horizontal clearance.

The large size will not fit a machine limited to 127 × 178 mm, even if that hoop is advertised as 5 × 7 inches. Load the file into the machine and run Trace, Corner Check or Hoop Check before stitching. Neither version fits a 100 × 100 mm or 4 × 4 inch embroidery field.

Monogram and font information

The central letter visible in the product photographs is shown as a personalization example. It is not included with the laurel wreath design.

You can add your own lettering in embroidery software or choose a compatible alphabet from our capital letters for monograms collection.

Measure the available center space inside the stitched wreath before selecting a letter size. Leave sufficient clearance between the letter and the satin-stitched leaves, especially when using metallic thread.

Original thread references

This is a one-color design with no programmed color changes. The supplied color sheets use the following Madeira Classic Rayon references:

  • Small version: Madeira Classic 1180 Daffodil Yellow
  • Large version: Madeira Classic 1064 Goldenrod Yellow

These are suggested colors rather than required colors. When embroidering both sizes as one coordinated set, use the same chosen thread color for both versions.

Pale gold and silver metallic options

The single-color structure makes the wreath suitable for testing with standard-weight machine embroidery metallic thread. Metallic thread is optional and should be tested because the satin leaves contain relatively dense stitching.

Thread Shade Suggested effect
Madeira FS No. 40 4022 White Gold Soft pale gold for ivory, cream and wedding linens
Madeira FS No. 40 4010 Silver Classic cool silver
Madeira FS No. 40 4061 Platinum Pale gray-silver with a restrained shine
Gütermann Metallic 7001 Silver Bright silver for white, gray and dark fabrics
Gütermann Metallic 7004 Muted Gold A softer gold effect; supplier shade names may vary by market
Gütermann Metallic 7009 Pewter Darker cool silver for a vintage or understated finish

Thread colors shown on screens can differ from the actual spool. Select metallic thread by shade number and compare it with a current physical color card whenever an exact match is important.

How to embroider the wreath with metallic thread

  1. Choose a standard-weight metallic embroidery thread close to 40 weight. A much thicker metallic thread may be unsuitable for the original stitch density.
  2. Install a new Metallic 80/12 or 90/14 needle, following the thread manufacturer's recommendation.
  3. Make sure the spool unwinds smoothly. An external thread stand can help prevent twisting and sudden pulling.
  4. Reduce the upper thread tension gradually if the metallic thread frays, breaks or pulls the bobbin thread to the surface.
  5. Begin at approximately 400–500 stitches per minute and increase the speed only if the thread feeds cleanly.
  6. Use regular lightweight polyester bobbin thread rather than metallic thread in the bobbin.
  7. Stitch a complete test using the same fabric, stabilizer, needle and thread planned for the final project.

If metallic thread continues to break, stop the machine and check the thread path, needle condition, tension and spool position. Do not continue stitching through repeated breaks, as this can create visible overlaps in the satin leaves.

More setup advice is available in our metallic thread machine embroidery guide and our Gütermann Sliver metallic thread review.

Fabric and stabilizer suggestions

  • Stable cotton, linen and napkins: use a medium tear-away stabilizer and hoop the fabric without stretching it.
  • Lightweight or loosely woven linen: test a light cut-away or no-show mesh stabilizer to reduce puckering around the dense satin leaves.
  • Terry towels and fabrics with pile: use a stable backing underneath and water-soluble topping above the fabric so the stitches remain visible.
  • Knit robes or stretchy fabric: use cut-away stabilizer and avoid stretching the fabric while hooping.

Press the fabric before hooping and mark the vertical and horizontal center lines. Because the large version is close to the width limit of a 130 mm field, careful centering is especially important.

Project ideas

  • Personalized wedding and anniversary napkins
  • Monogrammed hand towels and guest towels
  • Table runners, placemats and linen chair decorations
  • Pillowcases and decorative cushions
  • Bathrobes and spa accessories
  • Graduation and achievement gifts
  • Family initials and elegant home décor

Gold thread creates a ceremonial and classical appearance, while pale silver, platinum, white or tone-on-tone thread gives the wreath a quieter contemporary finish.

Download and permitted use

This is a digital machine embroidery product. No physical patch or finished item will be shipped. After purchase, download the ZIP archive, extract the files and transfer the required format to your embroidery machine.

The design may be used to create a limited number of finished products for sale. Bulk manufacturing is not permitted. The digital files may not be resold, shared, traded, copied or included in another digital collection.

Always make a test stitch before embroidering the final item. Results can vary depending on the machine, thread, needle, fabric, stabilizer and hooping method.

Frequently asked questions

Will this laurel wreath embroidery design fit a 5 × 7 hoop?

Both versions fit a full 130 × 180 mm embroidery field. The large version is 128.2 mm wide and will not fit machines limited to 127 mm in width, even when the hoop is advertised as 5 × 7 inches.

Does the design fit a 4 × 4 hoop?

No. Both versions are wider than the 100 × 100 mm usable field of a standard 4 × 4 hoop.

Is the monogram letter included?

No. The download includes the laurel wreath and bow only. Add your own letter or purchase a compatible monogram alphabet separately.

Can I embroider this design with metallic thread?

Yes, but a complete test stitch is required. Use standard-weight machine embroidery metallic thread, a fresh metallic needle, reduced upper tension when necessary and a slower starting speed.

Can I change the thread color?

Yes. This is a one-color design, so it can be stitched in gold, silver, green, white, black or another color suitable for the project.

Is this a physical embroidered patch?

No. This listing is for downloadable machine embroidery files only.
