ITH Christmas Stocking with Cardinal Machine Embroidery Design is a complete in-the-hoop project for making a small felt Christmas stocking in one hooping. The embroidery combines a red cardinal, poinsettias, holly, evergreen branches, berries and snowflakes.

Madeira Classic Thread Chart

The color charts contain 19 Madeira Classic shades, 23 color blocks and 22 thread changes. Several shades are repeated during different embroidery stages.

Use the Madeira Thread Free Exchange Converter to find similar shades from other embroidery thread brands.

The color blocks reproduce the shades shown in the original charts. Real thread may look different because of rayon shine, lighting and monitor settings.

Materials and Supplies

• felt for the front of the stocking;
• felt for the back piece;
• firm heavyweight stabilizer;
• 40-weight machine embroidery thread;
• bobbin thread;
• sharp embroidery needle, size 75/11 or 80/12 depending on felt thickness;
• regular scissors or pinking shears.

Only the stabilizer is hooped. The felt is positioned over the placement outline and secured during the programmed embroidery sequence.

Instruction

~ Hoop a thick stabilizer.

~ Turn on the machine, it will embroider the circuit.

~ Put a piece of felt on the place where the machine marked the Christmas sock.

~ Turn on the machine, it will sew the felt to the stabilizer.
You can cut the felt at a distance of 1/3 Inches from the line. You may do it at the end of the embroidery.

~ Embroider the design.

~ When the last color remains (this is another line), you need to put another piece of felt down, under the embroidery frame, with the front side on the embroidery unit. This will be the wrong side of our Christmas sock for cutlery.

~ Turn on the machine and sew this piece of felt.

~ Get the hoop out of the machine. Take the scissors with a jagged edge and cut the sock in a circle.

Is this a complete in-the-hoop project?

Yes. The placement outline, decorative embroidery and joining of the front and back felt pieces are completed in one hooping.

Which hoops are required?

The five files correspond approximately to 130x180, 140x200, 160x240, 180x300 and 200x260 mm hoops. Always verify the usable embroidery field supported by your machine.

Does the design fit a 5x7 hoop?

Yes. The smallest 128.0x163.8 mm file fits a standard 130x180 mm or 5x7 embroidery field. The other four sizes require larger hoops.

Which files fit a 140x200 mm hoop?

The 128.0x163.8 mm and 138.0x176.6 mm files fit. The 154.7x198.0 mm file is too wide and requires approximately a 160x240 mm hoop.

Is this a full-size fireplace stocking?

No. The included stockings range from approximately 6.45 to 9.98 inches high. They are intended for cutlery, candy, small gifts and decorative use.

Do I need to hoop the felt?

No. Hoop only the thick stabilizer. The felt is placed over the placement outline and secured by the programmed stitching.

Does the stocking need to be turned inside out?

No. The second felt piece is attached under the hoop during the final embroidery stage. The finished stocking is removed and trimmed with pinking shears.

Can I change the thread colors?

Yes. Keep clear contrast between the cardinal, foliage, poinsettias, snowflakes and felt background so that the details remain visible.

Is this a finished physical stocking?

No. This product contains digital files for a computerized embroidery machine. No physical product or materials will be shipped.

Can I sell stockings made with this design?

Finished embroidered items may be sold at craft fairs and through small online businesses. Factory production, mass retail production and redistribution, sharing or resale of the digital files are prohibited.
