This symmetrical baroque damask motif machine embroidery design is a digital embroidery file for embroidery machines. The composition forms a self-contained vertical ornament with mirrored scrollwork, stylized leaves and a refined central axis. The smallest version requires a minimum 4x6.69 inch (100x170 mm / 10x17 cm) embroidery hoop. Four prepared sizes make the motif suitable for terry towels, pillow covers, table linens, bed linen, decorative panels and elegant home textiles.

The complete ornament is embroidered as one color block with no color changes. Madeira Classic 40 shade 1196 appears in the supplied color chart only as a technical example. It is not a required palette: embroider the motif in any suitable rayon, polyester or machine-compatible metallic thread and choose the color for the fabric, laundering requirements and desired finish.

Where to Use the Damask Motif

The tall, balanced silhouette works as an independent central accent rather than a border. Place it above the woven band of a bath towel, at the center of a decorative pillow, on the end of a table runner, on a bed-linen panel or as a repeated motif on a larger textile. For a formal look, stitch it in antique gold, champagne, ivory or tone-on-tone thread. Navy, burgundy, emerald and black create stronger contrast on pale fabric.

Coordinating Baroque Designs

Madeira Classic 40 Color Chart

The supplied chart uses one technical color for the complete design. The square below is an approximate screen preview; the actual thread may look different under natural and artificial light. Madeira Classic 40 color 1196 is the chart reference only, not a required choice.

Sequence: one thread color stitches the complete motif. Replace 1196 with any preferred embroidery thread; no color remapping is required.

Gold Thread Examples

These are practical examples of gold-toned rayon, polyester and metallic machine embroidery threads. The squares are approximate screen colors, not substitutes for physical thread charts. Shade names can vary slightly by market, so confirm the number on the manufacturer’s current color card before purchasing.

Color Brand and Line Number Color Name Suggested Effect
Madeira Classic 40 rayon 1196 Green Gold / Mustard Muted antique-gold appearance; this is the supplied chart reference.
Isacord 40 polyester 0704 Gold Warm, washable gold for bath towels and frequently laundered textiles.
Sulky Rayon 40 1024 Goldenrod Lustrous yellow-gold for decorative and guest towels.
Madeira FS Metallic 40 4003 Gold 3 True metallic shine for decorative towels, cushions and formal linens.
Gunold Mety 40 metallic 7002 Antique Gold Deeper aged-gold effect on white, cream, navy, black or burgundy fabric.

For towels used and washed regularly: polyester is the practical choice because it tolerates laundering well. Rayon gives a softer, richer sheen and is especially attractive on guest towels and decorative linens. Metallic thread creates the strongest gold effect, but it should be test stitched in the selected design size before the final item is embroidered.

Machine Embroidery on Terry Towels

Support the fabric from below. Use a medium-weight cut-away or no-show mesh stabilizer for a soft bath towel that will be washed repeatedly. A firm tear-away stabilizer can work on a stable towel when a cleaner reverse side is important, but test the complete motif first. If the finished towel is too thick to hoop, hoop a self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer such as Madeira Cotton Fix and secure the towel on top without stretching it.

Keep the stitches above the pile. Place a water-soluble topping such as Madeira Avalon Film on the right side of the towel. The film compresses the loops while the machine stitches and helps preserve the narrow scrolls and pointed details. Secure the topping with a basting box or temporary embroidery adhesive used sparingly on the stabilizer.

Hoop without distorting the towel. Mark the vertical centerline and the lower placement point, then compare the printed template at 100% scale with the towel band. Hoop the towel and stabilizer smoothly; do not pull the terry cloth tight. Keep the excess towel supported so its weight cannot drag against the carriage.

Choose the thread for the towel’s purpose. Use 40-weight polyester for everyday bath towels and rayon for decorative or guest towels. When stitching the whole ornament in metallic thread, follow the thread manufacturer’s needle recommendation, reduce the machine speed if necessary and test the complete size. After embroidery, trim the backing carefully and remove the water-soluble topping according to its instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use Madeira Classic 1196?

No. Madeira Classic 1196 is the example shown in the color chart. The complete motif is one color block, so it can be embroidered in any suitable thread color without changing the design sequence.

Can the ornament be stitched in rayon, polyester or metallic thread?

Yes. Rayon produces a lustrous decorative finish, polyester is practical for frequently washed towels, and machine-compatible metallic thread creates a brighter gold effect. Test the chosen thread with the same needle, fabric and stabilizers intended for the finished project.

How do I stop the design from sinking into terry loops?

Use water-soluble topping on the face of the towel and structural stabilizer underneath. The topping holds the pile down while the stitches form; the backing prevents the towel from shifting and the ornament from distorting.

Which version should I choose for a hand towel or bath towel?

Print the templates at 100% scale and compare them with the available area above the woven band. Choose the size that leaves balanced space on both sides and then confirm that its exact dimensions fit the usable embroidery field of the selected hoop.

Can the same motif be used on pillows and table linens?

Yes. Use it as a centered ornament on a cushion cover or at the end of a table runner. Stable woven linen or cotton usually works with firm tear-away stabilizer; loosely woven or flexible fabric needs stronger permanent support.

Can I combine several copies into one large composition?

Yes. Prepare the complete layout in embroidery software before transferring it to a machine with a sufficiently large embroidery field. Check spacing, alignment, total dimensions and stitch count, then test the composition on comparable materials.
