Indian Floral Border for Mega Hoops is a machine embroidery design with a central fan-shaped palmette, pink flowers and buds, teal leaves, and gold-toned scrolls. How do I keep the flowers and scrolls from sinking into a terry towel?
Prewash and dry the towel using its intended care settings. Add backing underneath and water-soluble topping over the pile to hold the loops below the stitches. A soft, medium-weight cut-away stabilizer is a practical option for this long motif because it continues to support the embroidery after laundering. Topping does not replace backing. After stitching, gently remove excess topping and dissolve the remnants according to the stabilizer instructions.
Which stabilizer should I use for this border on a linen table runner?
Consider the linen weave, the size of the motif, and stitch coverage, not just fabric weight. Test a quality tear-away on firm, stable linen; consider a soft cut-away for loose or flexible fabric. Cut enough backing for the hoop to grip both layers around the full perimeter. Test the combination on the same fabric. If ripples appear around the palmette after unhooping, reassess the support and hooping tension rather than stretching the linen more tightly.
