Poinsettia Table Placemat ITH Machine Embroidery Design creates a complete festive table mat directly in the embroidery hoop. Red poinsettia flowers, green foliage and golden details form an elegant Christmas border around a spacious open center.

The free central area can be left blank or personalized in embroidery editing software with a separately purchased monogram, name or holiday inscription. The finished placemat is suitable for Christmas table settings, holiday dinners, winter weddings, handmade gifts and seasonal home decor.

This is a digital in-the-hoop machine embroidery design for mega hoops and industrial embroidery machines. No finished placemat, fabric, thread, lettering or other physical product will be shipped.

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 Color Chart

The original color chart uses seven Madeira Classic Rayon 40 shades arranged in eight programmed blocks. Madeira 1039 is repeated for the final edge treatment.

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1369
Aloe — green poinsettia leaves and foliage
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1038
Barn Red — dark red flower shading and contrasting petals
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1039
Brick Red — red floral sections and final decorative edge
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1146
Tango — bright red poinsettia petals
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1068
Canary — golden flower centers and small decorative accents
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1123
Parchment — warm cream ornamental details
Madeira Classic Rayon 40 1003
Natural White — light decorative details and finishing elements

Screen colors are approximate. Rayon sheen, lighting, monitor calibration and individual dye lots affect the visible shade. Select thread by its Madeira number rather than by the displayed square.

If you use another thread brand, try the Madeira Thread Free Exchange Converter.

Programmed Color Sequence

  1. 1369 Aloe — green poinsettia foliage;
  2. 1038 Barn Red — dark red flower shading;
  3. 1039 Brick Red — red floral sections;
  4. 1146 Tango — bright poinsettia petals;
  5. 1068 Canary — golden flower centers and accents;
  6. 1123 Parchment — warm cream ornamental details;
  7. 1003 Natural White — light decorative details and construction stitching;
  8. 1039 Brick Red — final decorative edge.

Complete sequence: 1369 → 1038 → 1039 → 1146 → 1068 → 1123 → 1003 → 1039.

Do not remove the repeated final 1039 block. It completes the decorative edge after the front and backing fabrics have been trimmed.

Materials Required

  • fabric for the front of the placemat;
  • fabric large enough to cover the complete back of the hoop;
  • two layers of medium-weight tear-away stabilizer;
  • temporary fabric adhesive spray;
  • Madeira Classic Rayon 40 or equivalent machine embroidery thread;
  • matching bobbin thread;
  • small sharp appliqué scissors for trimming close to the outline;
  • embroidery needle suitable for the selected fabric.

Choose stable woven fabric such as quilting cotton, linen blend or medium-weight decorative cotton. Very stretchy, loosely woven or heavily textured fabrics can distort the square shape and the finished edge.

ITH Embroidery Instructions

  1. Hoop the front fabric together with two layers of medium-weight tear-away stabilizer.
  2. Embroider the complete decorative poinsettia design until the machine reaches the outline stage indicated in the supplied instruction.
  3. Remove the hoop from the machine without moving the hooped front fabric.
  4. Turn the hoop over so that the underside is visible.
  5. Apply temporary fabric adhesive to the underside around the placemat area.
  6. Place the backing fabric over the entire reverse side of the design. The right side of the backing fabric must face outward.
  7. Return the hoop to the embroidery machine and stitch the outline that attaches the backing fabric.
  8. Remove the hoop again and trim the front and backing fabrics close to the outline stitching.
  9. Return the hoop to the machine and embroider the final decorative edge.
  10. Remove the finished placemat from the hoop and carefully tear away the excess stabilizer.

Keep the project hooped throughout the complete construction process. Removing the front fabric from the hoop before the final edge is finished will cause misalignment.

Download the illustrated instruction from the product page before beginning the project.

How to Personalize the Placemat

  1. Open the selected placemat file in compatible embroidery editing software.
  2. Add a separately digitized monogram, name or holiday inscription to the open center.
  3. Leave sufficient clearance between the lettering and the poinsettia border.
  4. Check the complete dimensions after combining the files.
  5. Place the personalized embroidery before the backing attachment and final edge blocks.
  6. Save the combined design in the format supported by your machine.
  7. Test the complete sequence before embroidering the final placemat.

No monogram, alphabet or embroidery font is included. Ordinary computer text must be digitized into embroidery stitches before it can be used by an embroidery machine.

Browse separately digitized lettering in the Machine Embroidery Fonts, Alphabets and Monograms category.

Color Variations

Traditional Christmas Palette

Use the original red, green, cream, white and gold combination for classic Christmas table decor. It works especially well on white, ivory, deep green, burgundy and natural linen-colored fabric.

White and Gold Poinsettia

Replace the three red shades with white, ivory and pale champagne. Retain separate shades for the petal layers so the flowers do not become visually flat.

Burgundy Christmas Table

Use burgundy, wine red and dusty rose for the petals, muted olive for the foliage and antique gold for the centers. Maintain contrast between each programmed flower layer.

Metallic Accents

Madeira 1068 Canary can be replaced with gold metallic thread. Use a metallic embroidery needle, reduce the machine speed and test the small flower centers before stitching the final project.

Project Ideas

  • personalized Christmas dinner placemats;
  • matching holiday table settings for the whole family;
  • poinsettia center mats for candles or small decorative arrangements;
  • Christmas breakfast and tea table decor;
  • winter wedding place settings;
  • personalized hostess gifts;
  • holiday table mats sold by a small handmade business;
  • coordinated placemats with embroidered family initials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the complete placemat made in the hoop?

Yes. The decorative embroidery, backing attachment and final finished edge are completed without removing the front fabric from the hoop.

Does the smallest size fit a 200x200 mm hoop?

No. The smallest design measures 219.3x219.3 mm (8.63x8.63") and requires at least a 220x220 mm (8.66x8.66") embroidery field.

Which hoop is required for each size?

The four files require approximately 220x220 mm (8.66x8.66"), 240x240 mm (9.45x9.45"), 270x270 mm (10.63x10.63") and 300x300 mm (11.81x11.81") embroidery fields respectively.

Can I embroider the placemat in several hoopings?

No split version is included. Each supplied size is a complete single-hooping ITH file.

How many layers of stabilizer are required?

Use two layers of medium-weight tear-away stabilizer, as specified in the original product instructions.

When is the backing fabric added?

Add the backing fabric to the underside of the hoop after the decorative design has been embroidered and before stitching the attachment outline.

Do I trim both fabric layers?

Yes. After the attachment outline is stitched, trim the front and backing fabrics close to the outline before embroidering the final decorative edge.

Is batting required?

No batting is specified in the original instructions. Adding batting independently can affect the final edge and should be tested before use.

Is the monogram included?

No. The open center is intended for optional personalization, but no letter, name, alphabet or font is included.

Can I change the colors?

Yes. Preserve visible contrast between the three flower shades, foliage, flower centers and base fabric. Keep all eight programmed blocks in their original order.

Can the design be resized?

Use one of the four supplied original sizes whenever possible. Resizing an ITH design can alter stitch density, attachment outlines, trimming lines and the width of the final edge. Royal Present Embroidery is not responsible for stitch quality or construction accuracy after independent resizing, splitting, editing or format conversion.

Is PES included?

Yes. PES is included together with DST, JEF, PEC, VIP, HUS, EXP, SEW, DAT, VP3 and XXX. Your machine must also support the dimensions and stitch count of the selected file.

How do I unpack the ZIP archive?

Extract the downloaded archive on a computer or use the free Royal Present online unzip tool.

Is this a finished physical placemat?

No. This is a downloadable digital design for a computerized embroidery machine. No physical product or materials will be shipped.

Can I sell placemats embroidered with this design?

Finished physical products may be sold by a small handmade business. Industrial mass production and redistribution, sharing, exchange or resale of the digital files are prohibited. Read the complete Royal Present Embroidery terms of use.
