Eastern Border Machine Embroidery Design is a symmetrical decorative composition inspired by the floral ornamentation of the Tilla-Qori Madrasah in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Flowing turquoise scrolls, stylized flowers and delicate golden accents form an elegant vertical panel with a balanced architectural character.

The design can be used on table runners, cushion panels, decorative towels, wall hangings, bags, garment inserts and coordinated Oriental-style home textiles. Three original sizes are included for different embroidery fields.

This is a downloadable digital machine embroidery design. Fabric, thread and finished physical products are not included.

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 Color Chart

The embroidery uses three cool shades and one warm accent. White Madeira 1004 is programmed three times because it stitches separate flower sections at different stages of the design.

Madeira Classic 1004
White flower petals and light floral details
Madeira Classic 1176
Deep turquoise stems, leaves and contrasting scrolls
Madeira Classic 1132
Pale blue main scrollwork and stylized floral shapes
Madeira Classic 1024
Golden flower centers in the smallest size
Madeira Classic 1069
Golden flower centers in the two larger sizes

Important: the smallest file uses Madeira 1024 for the golden accents. The medium and largest files use Madeira 1069. This difference comes directly from the supplied technical charts.

The color squares are approximate screen representations. Rayon sheen, lighting, monitor settings and thread batch can affect the visible shade. Use the Madeira number as the primary reference when selecting thread.

Fabric and Stabilizer Recommendations

The design contains long satin columns and closely aligned symmetrical elements. Firm stabilization helps keep the curves smooth and prevents the two sides of the ornament from shifting out of alignment.

  • Medium-weight linen or cotton: use one layer of medium-weight cut-away stabilizer;
  • Light or loosely woven linen: reinforce the fabric with fusible embroidery backing and add cut-away stabilizer;
  • Table runners and decorative panels: hoop the fabric and stabilizer together whenever possible;
  • Velvet or fabric with a raised surface: use cut-away backing and a lightweight water-soluble topping;
  • Stretch fabric: use fusible cut-away stabilizer and avoid stretching the material while hooping;
  • Needle: use a new embroidery needle 75/11 for ordinary woven fabric or 80/12 for heavier material;
  • Thread: Madeira Classic Rayon 40 or an equivalent No. 40 machine embroidery thread.

A thin tear-away stabilizer alone may not provide enough support for the largest size, especially on linen or soft furnishing fabric.

Color Variation Ideas

Traditional Blue and Gold

Keep the original turquoise, pale blue, white and golden palette for a cool architectural look inspired by glazed Oriental ornament.

Emerald and Ivory

Replace turquoise with emerald and deep forest green. Use ivory instead of white and retain a muted antique-gold accent.

Royal Blue and Silver

Combine royal blue, pale silver-blue and white. The small golden details can be replaced with silver metallic thread after a test stitch.

Terracotta Interior Palette

Use terracotta, muted teal, warm ivory and ochre for table linens and cushions in earthy interiors. Preserve strong contrast between the two principal ornament colors.

Project Ideas

  • vertical decorative panels;
  • table runners and tablecloth ends;
  • cushion and bolster inserts;
  • guest and decorative towels;
  • tote bags and evening bags;
  • jacket and kaftan panels;
  • curtain borders and tiebacks;
  • coordinated bedroom textiles;
