Annemieke Mein â an artist with a tread
Today I would like you to meet Annemieke Mein, and Australian embroidery artisan, whose love of her landâs nature inspires her in the wonderful art of depicting real wild life in soft but vivid embrace of embroidery craftsmanship.
A big place in her heart is devoted to the intricate world of insects. Propagation of insects, which is one of her hobbies and aspirations, helps her to deeply understand the nature, character and movements of these tiny creatures, which she reproduces in her works of art with perfect affinity.
But the way to masterpiece creation is long for a true artist. In order to make her embroideries look and feel like they are alive, Annemieke Mein does a lot of observation, photographing and studying. Then, on the basis of the collected knowledge, she does careful sketching of different spices. Only after the smallest details are known and recorded, the artist begins work with textile and threads.
Here is what she says about her work:
âMy textile pictures show original Australian wildlife. I try to portray all the wonderful diversity of our nature with the help of various techniques. Most of them concern different texturesâ articulation, color variations and inclusion of other forms of art (painting, appliqué, weaving, beading etc.). All this diversity of methods and crafts is implemented to make a viewer believe in the reality of the visual image. Especially interesting results I get with subjects, which are usually considered plain and unattractive. Detailed depiction of their appearance, movements and life in general, make them fascinating not only for me, but for everybody.â
The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles – is a wonderful collection of 60 masterpieces of this great embroidery artist. This book not only shows her works, but also guides through their creation on 170 pages of detailed explanation. This book is available on Amazon.
