Before transferring a file, compare its dimensions with the actual embroidery field supported by your machine. You can find the field size in the machine manual, in the hoop list on the machine screen or on the marking printed or molded into the hoop.

Madeira Classic Rayon 40 color chart

The four prepared sizes use slightly different color sequences. Madeira 1137 appears in the smallest version, while Madeira 1065 and 1244 are used in the three larger versions. Follow the JPG color chart supplied with the exact file you choose.

The color squares are screen references only. Select thread by the Madeira number and the supplied JPG color chart. If you use another brand, match the thread with a physical conversion chart whenever possible.

Fabric, stabilizer, needle and thread

• Stable woven cotton, canvas or apron fabric: use a medium-to-heavy tear-away or cut-away stabilizer according to the fabric weight.
• Sweatshirts, hoodies and other knits: use a soft cut-away stabilizer and hoop the fabric without stretching it.
• Fleece, terry cloth or fabric with a raised surface: add a thin water-soluble topping so the outlines and small facial details remain visible.
• Needle: begin with a new 75/11 embroidery needle and standard 40-weight embroidery thread; test an 80/12 needle if the finished fabric is unusually heavy.
• Machine speed: if the small details or final outlines become unstable, reduce the speed to approximately 500–600 stitches per minute.

Support the loose part of an apron, sweatshirt or bag at machine-bed height so its weight does not pull on the embroidery carriage. Always stitch the complete selected size on a sample of the same fabric with the same stabilizer, needle and thread before embroidering the finished item.

• Place the smallest version in the center of a child’s apron bib or on the front of a Halloween treat bag.
• Use a larger horizontal version on a sweatshirt, hoodie, tote bag or decorative pillow.
• Choose the vertical 109.4x130.6 mm version for a narrow costume panel, banner or long bag front.

Why can the final outlines shift away from the filled areas?

This usually happens when the fabric moves during a dense, multi-color stitch-out. Hoop the fabric without stretching it, stabilize the entire embroidery field and support the weight of the garment or bag. If the shift appears in a test stitch, check stabilization, hooping and upper-thread tension before editing the embroidery file.

Can I use metallic thread for the moon, stars or gold bow details?

Yes, but test the substitution first. Use a metallic embroidery needle, unwind the thread smoothly and reduce machine speed if the thread twists, shreds or breaks. Replacing several gold shades with one metallic thread will keep the shapes but reduce some of the original shading.

How should I embroider this design on a child’s sweatshirt or hoodie?

Use a soft cut-away stabilizer that remains behind the stitches after washing. Do not stretch the knit while hooping. Keep seams, pockets and thick ribbing outside the embroidery field, and support the rest of the garment so it cannot pull against the carriage while the machine is running.

Can I change the colors for a girl’s or boy’s Halloween project?

Yes. Purple can be changed to green, turquoise, pink or another accent color, and the orange may be adjusted to suit the fabric. Keep strong contrast between the black sections, the pumpkin face and the surrounding leaves so the details remain readable. Test the selected palette on the actual fabric, especially when embroidering on black or dark purple.

Can I resize one of the embroidery files?

Use one of the four prepared sizes whenever possible. The design contains filled areas, narrow outlines and small hanging details, so major scaling in ordinary embroidery software can change stitch density, stitch length and registration. If a different size is essential, it should be professionally resized with stitch recalculation.

Why does the DST file show different colors in my machine or software?

DST files do not preserve the original Madeira thread numbers in the same way as the supplied JPG chart. A machine or program may display its own default colors; this does not mean the file is damaged. Choose the threads from the JPG color chart for the exact size you are stitching.
