Made to complement Hermès Balcon du Guadalquivir tableware

This red-and-white Andalusian Balcony placemat was developed for exactly that styling problem: it creates a strong architectural frame around white porcelain and pairs naturally with the vivid red decoration of Hermès Balcon du Guadalquivir tableware.

The connection is specific and historically grounded. Hermès describes its porcelain set as a tribute to Andalusian ironwork and explains that the designer drew inspiration from wrought-iron balconies on the banks of the Guadalquivir. Royal Present Embroidery worked from the same Andalusian architectural tradition, translating the rhythm of metal latticework into an original embroidery composition for textile table settings.

This is an independent Royal Present Embroidery artwork designed to complement, not reproduce, Hermès tableware. It is not a digitization of the porcelain decoration, an official collaboration, a licensed Hermès product or a physical accessory supplied by Hermès.

Why an ornament from Spain can look Moorish

Andalusia is a region of southern Spain, but the visual vocabulary of its architecture was deeply shaped by Al-Andalus. Repeated geometry, balanced symmetry, interlaced plant forms and controlled negative space are characteristic of Moorish arabesque. European wrought-iron balconies transformed those principles into structural metal patterns. The Andalusian Balcony placemat preserves that double identity: eastern in ornamental rhythm and Spanish in architectural context.

Madeira Classic 40 palette for a red-and-white table

This is a styling palette, not the machine color-change chart. Choose one red according to the porcelain, linen and lighting in the room. Madeira notes that on-screen color simulations may differ from the physical thread, so use the thread number and confirm the final choice against a real shade card.

Use the Madeira number when ordering thread. The colored squares are screen references only and cannot guarantee an exact match to porcelain or fabric.

Materials for the ITH placemat

• Front fabric: prewashed medium-weight linen, cotton or a stable woven blend.
• Backing fabric: a non-stretch woven fabric of similar or slightly lighter weight.
• Stabilizer: two securely hooped layers of firm tear-away stabilizer; test the combination before the final project.
• Temporary hold: embroidery-safe temporary spray adhesive for the backing piece.
• Thread: 40-weight embroidery rayon or polyester; coordinate the bobbin with the reverse side and final edge.
• Needle: sharp embroidery needle 75/11 or 80/12, selected for the fabric weight and total number of layers.
• Cutting tool: sharp appliqué scissors for trimming close to the placement line without cutting the stitches.

How the placemat is assembled in the hoop

1. Prewash, dry and press the front and backing fabrics so that later shrinkage does not distort the circular edge.
2. Hoop the front fabric with the stabilizer. A large frame must be supported evenly so its weight does not pull against the machine carriage.
3. Stitch the decorative sequence in the supplied order. Stop at the backing-placement stage indicated in the included color chart.
4. Without unhooping the project, place the backing beneath the hoop with its right side facing outward and secure it lightly.
5. Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the securing outline.
6. Remove the hoop from the machine without opening it. Trim both fabric layers close to the outline while protecting the stabilizer and stitches.
7. Reattach the hoop and complete the final edge. Remove the finished placemat and clean away the stabilizer carefully.

Run the machine's boundary trace before the first stitch and support the outer edge of a heavy Mega Hoop. If the frame vibrates or registration begins to drift, reduce speed and check hoop support, stabilizer tension and fabric movement. A different file format cannot correct a field-size or hooping problem.

Choosing a placemat size for your dinner plate

Measure the actual plate, then decide how much embroidered ornament should remain visible. The 298.0x297.9 mm (11.73x11.73 ") and 317.3x317.2 mm (12.49x12.49 ") files suit many dinner-place settings. The 338.0x337.9 mm (13.31x13.30 ") version provides a broader decorative frame, while the largest 358.0x357.9 mm (14.09x14.09 ") file is intended for very large fields.

Do not select by a rounded hoop label alone. Both the width and height of the square embroidery file must fit inside the machine's usable field. For industrial systems, also confirm that the selected format preserves the complete design dimensions during transfer.

Care of the finished placemat

Wash at up to 30 °C / 86 °F on a delicate cycle with no chlorine bleach. Dry flat and reshape while damp. Press from the reverse through a cotton cloth on a padded surface, avoiding heavy pressure on the satin edge. Always follow the stricter care limit of the chosen fabric and thread.

Will this ITH placemat fit a domestic embroidery machine?

Only if the machine's actual embroidery field is at least as large as the selected file. The smallest size is already 217.5x217.4 mm (8.56x8.56 "), so the set is intended primarily for industrial, multi-needle and selected large-field domestic machines.

Is this a physical placemat or a digital download?

It is a digital machine embroidery design. The download contains embroidery files in 8 sizes; no sewn placemat, fabric, stabilizer, thread, plate or other table-setting item is shipped.

Is the entire placemat completed in the hoop?

Yes. The front is embroidered, the backing is attached, both layers are trimmed and the edge is finished before the project is removed from the hoop. No additional sewing-machine seam is required.

Can I use this placemat with Hermès tableware?

Yes. The red-and-white palette and Andalusian ironwork rhythm were selected to complement Hermès Balcon du Guadalquivir porcelain. The embroidery is an independent Royal Present design and is not affiliated with, licensed by or supplied by Hermès.

Why can a listed format still be unsuitable for my machine?

The extension controls file compatibility, while the dimensions control whether the design fits the embroidery field. A machine may read PES, JEF or VP3 yet still be unable to stitch a file measuring 217.5x217.4 mm or larger. Verify both specifications.
