Fabric and Stabilizer Recommendations

Light-colored cotton or linen is recommended because the unstitched fabric forms part of the highlights. Dark, strongly patterned or heavily textured fabric will substantially change the appearance of the motifs.

• Stable cotton or linen: Madeira Cotton Soft 50 g/m² tear-away stabilizer;
• Fabric that is difficult to hoop or slightly unstable: Madeira Cotton Fix 50 g/m² self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer;
• Stretch or knitted fabric: Madeira E-ZEE Green Cut 45 g/m² cut-away stabilizer;
• Terry or waffle towels: backing plus Gunold SOLVY FILM 20 water-soluble topping;
• Upper thread: Madeira Classic Rayon 40 for shine or Madeira Polyneon 40 for frequently washed kitchen textiles;
• Needle: embroidery or sharp needle, size 75/11;
• Bobbin: standard machine embroidery bobbin thread.

As a starting point, the stabilizer weight can be calculated as approximately one third of the fabric weight. For example, cotton weighing about 150 g/m² can be paired with approximately 50 g/m² stabilizer. Fabric structure, stitch density and design size must also be considered.

Test the selected motif on a fabric remnant before embroidering the finished item. The fabric must remain stable so that the dark contours align with the loose color fills.

Why is light fabric recommended?

The motifs contain intentionally unstitched sections that create highlights and light areas. Dark fabric will show through these sections and change the appearance of the fruit and vegetables.

Can I change the thread colors?

Yes. Maintain clear separation between the light, medium and dark shades. The final dark contour must contrast with both the colored fills and the background fabric.

Can I use polyester instead of rayon?

Yes. Madeira Polyneon 40 or another quality 40-weight polyester thread is practical for kitchen towels, aprons and other items that will be washed frequently.

Can the files be resized?

Use one of the included original sizes whenever possible. Significant resizing can change the relationship between the loose color fills and the dark sketch contours.

Is this a finished physical product?

No. The purchase contains downloadable files for a computerized embroidery machine. No finished embroidery or materials will be shipped.

Can I sell items embroidered with these designs?

Finished embroidered items may be sold by a small business. Factory production and redistribution, sharing or resale of the digital embroidery files are prohibited.
