Original Madeira Classic Rayon Palette

The available source charts use Madeira Classic Rayon No. 40. The first four size charts contain 15 different shades arranged in 26 programmed blocks, producing 25 thread changes. Use the Madeira numbers as the primary reference; the on-screen squares are approximate representations sampled from the original RPE-3003 chart.

The official Madeira chart names are provided for reference in the Madeira Classic Rayon color-name chart. Monitor calibration, ambient light and rayon sheen can change the apparent color, so match by thread number and a physical shade card whenever exact color is important.

Why the Gallery Embroidery Looks Red

The original charts use fuchsia, hibiscus, dahlia, pink carnation, violet and lavender, so the charted Santa has a pink-and-purple fashion palette. The stitched gallery sample is a deliberately recolored Christmas version with a bright red suit and red-orange gifts. The gallery colors should not be mistaken for the original Madeira sequence.

For a traditional red Santa, Madeira Classic 1147 Christmas Red is a practical starting point for the main suit instead of 1110 Fuchsia, while 1038 Barn Red can replace 1234 Hibiscus for darker shading. Keep 1004 Natural White, 1000 Emerald Black, 1251 Kelly Green, 1048 Aloe and 1171 Lemon Drop for the white trim, outlines, tree and star. These red numbers are suggested substitutions, not numbers printed on the RPE-3003 source chart. Test the complete sequence before stitching the final item.

Verified Differences Between the Listing and Color Charts

The calculator-linked live values remain unchanged because they are the active product data. The chart images also round two dimensions differently: 158.4x194.0 mm instead of 158.4x193.9 mm, and 178.6x218.4 mm instead of 178.5x218.4 mm. These are 0.1 mm chart-versus-listing differences, not separate prepared sizes.

The first four available charts all show the same 26-block color order. A separate chart for the 198.6x242.9 mm file was not found in the accessible gallery, so its thread estimate and chart stitch count are intentionally not invented.

Fabric, Stabilizer, Needle and Speed

• Quilting cotton, linen or stable pillow fabric: use a medium-weight cut-away for the most reliable support under the dense layered fills. A firm tear-away may work on very stable fabric, but test the complete design before using it on the finished project.
• Christmas stocking: embroider the front panel before assembling the stocking whenever possible. Stabilize the single flat panel and keep the back layer out of the hoop so the stocking is not stitched closed.
• Terry towel: use a firm tear-away underneath and water-soluble topping above the loops. The topping keeps Santa’s face, beard edge and black contours from sinking into the pile.
• Fleece, sweatshirt knit or stretchy fabric: use cut-away backing, water-soluble topping and a new 75/11 or 80/12 ballpoint embroidery needle. Do not stretch the fabric while hooping.
• Canvas or tote-bag fabric: use a new 75/11 embroidery needle or 80/12 needle for heavier fabric and support the bag beside the machine so its weight cannot pull the carriage.
• Thread and speed: use Rayon No. 40 for sheen or Polyester No. 40 for frequently washed projects. Begin around 500–650 stitches per minute and reduce speed if the dense white beard, small facial details or black outlines begin to distort.

Hoop the stabilizer and fabric evenly without stretching, run the boundary trace and make a complete test stitch using the same fabric, stabilizer, thread, needle and speed planned for the final project. With 31,748–60,026 stitches and 25 programmed thread changes on the verified charts, small tension or stabilization errors accumulate across the design.

Placement Ideas

The motif is vertical and visually weighted by the gift stack on Santa’s left side. Center it from the full outer stitch boundary rather than from Santa’s face alone. On a pillow or framed panel, leave enough blank fabric around the gifts and hat so the composition does not look crowded after sewing or framing.

For a stocking, print the template at 100% and place it on the actual paper pattern before cutting. Even the smallest file is 127.9 mm / 12.79 cm / 5.04 in wide, so it will not fit every narrow ready-made stocking. On a fabric gift bag or tote, keep the design clear of side seams, drawstrings, handles and boxed corners.

The 127.9x156.6 mm / 12.79x15.66 cm / 5.04x6.17 in file fits within a true 130x180 mm / 5.12x7.09 in embroidery field, commonly called 5x7. It leaves only 2.1 mm of total width clearance, so confirm the machine’s usable field and run the boundary trace.

Will the 158.4 mm-wide size fit a 6x10 hoop?

It fits a true 160x260 mm / 6.30x10.24 in field, but only 1.6 mm / 0.16 cm / 0.06 in of total width clearance remains. The machine must accept the full 160 mm field. A larger hoop is safer when the model reserves an internal margin.

Will the largest design fit an 8x12 hoop?

The 198.6x242.9 mm / 19.86x24.29 cm / 7.82x9.56 in file fits within a true 200x300 mm / 7.87x11.81 in field, commonly called 8x12, but it leaves only 1.4 mm of total width clearance. Verify the exact machine field before purchase.

How many colors and thread changes are programmed?

The available charts for the first four sizes show 15 unique Madeira Classic Rayon colors in 26 programmed blocks, producing 25 thread changes. A separate chart for the largest file was not found in the accessible gallery.

Why is the embroidered Santa red when the chart contains pink and purple?

The photographed sample uses an alternative traditional Christmas colorway. The original chart lists Fuchsia, Hibiscus, Dahlia, Pink Carnation, Velvet Violet and Lavender. Madeira Classic 1147 Christmas Red and 1038 Barn Red are suggested replacements for the main red areas, not original chart numbers.

Is this an appliqué or in-the-hoop project?
