Filigree Wedding Doves with Rings is a one-color machine embroidery design featuring two symbolic birds, interlocking wedding rings, ornamental flowers and graceful scrollwork. Open areas within the wings and bodies create a delicate lace-like effect, but the design stitches directly onto fabric and is not freestanding lace.

The download does not contain three proportionally resized copies. Two layouts are vertical, with one dove above the other. The third is a separate horizontal composition in which the birds face each other and the rings form the center of the motif. Choose the file by hoop size, fabric direction and intended placement—not by dimensions alone.

All three files are one-color designs with no programmed color changes. This listing is for digital machine embroidery files. A finished towel, ring pillow, fabric, thread, stabilizer and ribbon are not included.

The stitch counts and upper-thread estimates come from the file charts. A machine-format conversion may change the counter by a few stitches. Use these figures to plan time and bobbin capacity, but always keep extra thread available.

The 130 × 180 and 140 × 200 mm hoops leave only 1.4 mm of total clearance along the long side—approximately 0.7 mm at each end. The files fit mathematically, but the usable field, hoop attachment and coordinate rounding vary by machine. Trace the design boundary before stitching. A 160 × 260 mm field is the safer choice for the second vertical layout.

Choosing the Right Layout for Wedding Textiles

Layout Best placement Check before stitching
84.2 × 178.6 mm wedding towel end, narrow table runner, vertical bag panel or framed keepsake bird direction and the nearly full use of a 130 × 180 mm field
93.6 × 198.6 mm wide ceremonial towel, central vertical panel or decorative pillow cover the machine's actual field height; a nominal 140 × 200 mm hoop leaves minimal clearance
228.6 × 107.8 mm 30 × 30 cm or larger ring pillow, wide wedding towel, tablecloth, runner or chair-back panel finished-item width, seam allowances and the center point between the rings

On a 30 × 30 cm pillow front, the horizontal motif leaves about 35.7 mm of fabric on each side before seam allowances. A 25 × 25 cm front leaves only about 10.7 mm per side, so that project is visually and technically too tight.

Suggested One-Color Madeira Palettes

Each file contains one color block. Every shade below is a separate option for the entire design, not a six-color stitching sequence. The archive does not specify an exact thread brand. Madeira Classic Rayon 40 gives bridal textiles a soft, silky sheen; for table linens that will be washed frequently, choose a comparable Madeira Polyneon 40 shade using a physical thread chart.

Color Madeira thread Shade Effect on wedding textiles
Classic Rayon 40 — 1001 Super White clean, cool white for white satin and linen
Classic Rayon 40 — 1003 Cream White soft ivory for champagne satin and natural linen
Classic Rayon 40 — 1024 Gold Rush warm bridal gold without the handling problems of metallic thread
Classic Rayon 40 — 1359 Golden Nugget muted antique gold for classic heirloom linens
Metallic FS 40 — 4022 White Gold cool metallic accent for the rings after file editing
Metallic FS 40 — 4009 Gold 9 classic metallic gold; not recommended for the complete filigree motif

The color cells are approximate screen previews. Thread sheen, lighting, fabric and monitor settings change how a shade appears; use a physical Madeira shade card for final matching.

Can the wedding rings be stitched in metallic thread?

The original file has no stop before the rings: the doves and rings stitch as one color block. To make the rings metallic, select them as a separate object in embroidery software and add a color stop before and after that object. Without editing, the machine will not request a thread change at the correct point.

Do not stitch the entire 74–106 m composition in metallic thread without a serious test. Small curls and tight directional changes increase abrasion and breakage. Use Rayon 40 for the complete motif; for a metallic accent, test a 90/14 metallic needle, a speed of about 400–500 stitches per minute and slightly reduced upper tension.

Fabric and Stabilizer for the Filigree Effect

  • Firm linen or cotton: use a medium-weight tear-away when the reverse of the towel must remain neat. Choose a lightweight cut-away for loose-weave linen.
  • Satin, silk or taffeta: use a soft lightweight cut-away. Do not drum-tighten the fabric; after unhooping, excessive tension can release and pucker the long composition.
  • Velvet or velour: place cut-away stabilizer below and a lightweight water-soluble film above so the small scrolls do not sink into the pile.
  • Needle: start with a new 75/11 embroidery needle for Rayon 40 on medium fabric; test an 80/12 needle for heavy interior textiles.
  • Hooping: secure the fabric and stabilizer together. On satin, protect the hoop edges with cotton strips or thin paper to reduce shine marks.

The lace-like appearance comes from open spaces between dense ornamental stitch paths. If the fabric shifts, those spaces lose their shape and neighboring scrolls can touch. Stabilizer performance is especially visible in this type of openwork-style design.

Practical Embroidery Tips

  1. Use a spool with a real safety margin. The horizontal file requires about 106 m of upper thread, so a 100 m spool is physically insufficient. Prepare at least 150 m for the two larger layouts; 200 m is safer.
  2. Avoid changing spools halfway through a dove. The same Madeira number can vary slightly between dye lots, and a sheen change is visible in one-color embroidery.
  3. Print the template at 100% scale. Mark the design center, ring line and seam allowances. In the horizontal version, the visual center runs between the rings—not through either bird.
  4. Add a basting frame in the machine or software. It holds a long textile blank before the dense ornamental paths begin and reveals skew early.
  5. For a clean towel reverse, use a fine bobbin thread in a compatible color. Do not place standard Rayon 40 in the bobbin without testing; a heavier lower thread changes tension balance.
  6. Let the sample cool and relax after stitching. Measure the final motif only then, and cut the pillow panel or square the towel ends after that measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these three sizes of the same layout?

No. The 84.2 × 178.6 and 93.6 × 198.6 mm files are vertical compositions. The 228.6 × 107.8 mm file is horizontal and cannot be treated as a simple enlargement of the first two.

Will the smallest file fit a 130 × 180 mm hoop?

It fits by coordinates because its height is 178.6 mm, but the total clearance is only 1.4 mm. Check your machine's actual embroidery field, attach the hoop and trace the boundary before stitching.

Does the medium file fit a 140 × 200 mm hoop?

It fits mathematically because its height is 198.6 mm. The clearance is again only 1.4 mm along the long side. If your machine rounds coordinates or restricts the usable field, choose a 160 × 260 mm hoop.

Is a 100 m spool enough?

The smallest file uses about 74 m, although a safety margin is still necessary. The medium layout uses about 86.6 m and leaves too little reserve; the horizontal file uses about 106.1 m and physically exceeds a 100 m spool. Use at least 150 m of one dye lot for the two larger files.

Is this a freestanding lace design?

No. It looks filigree because of the open spaces, but it is digitized for fabric supported by stabilizer. If the foundation is fully dissolved, separate elements may lose their connection and shape.

Does the file make an ITH ring pillow automatically?

No. This is a decorative embroidery motif, not an ITH sewing project. It contains no fabric placement line, pillow seam, turning opening or ribbon attachment steps.

Can I stitch white doves with gold rings?

Yes, after editing the file to add a stop before and after the rings. The supplied one-color file will not stop for this thread change automatically.
