This ornate border combines the traditional buta, also known as paisley, with layered leaves, a small flower, open latticework and a curved lower outline. The design is digitized as one repeatable unit rather than a complete ready-made border of a fixed length. Use the connection point shown in the product gallery to align additional repeats during successive hoopings.

Where to use this Indian border

  • wide decorative bands on bath and guest towels;
  • table runners, tablecloths and placemats;
  • bed linen, duvet covers and pillow shams;
  • cushion panels and textile wall decor;
  • wide hems on tunics, robes, skirts and ceremonial garments.

The monochrome construction allows the border to be stitched in classic gold, ivory, silver, bronze or a contrasting color selected for the fabric. The original color chart uses Madeira Classic 1069. When working with another thread brand, use the free Madeira thread color converter to find a close alternative.

Design size and hoop compatibility

  • Size: 137.6 x 128.4 mm (5.42 x 5.06"), Stitches: 12368
    Formats: .dst, .jef, .pec, .vip, .hus, .pes, .sew, .exp, .dat, xxx, vp3
  • Recommended usable embroidery field: at least 13 × 18 cm / 5.12 × 7.09 in

This design does not fit a 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in embroidery field. Do not rely only on the commercial hoop name. Confirm that the machine’s actual usable field can accommodate both sides of the file. Rotate the design if necessary so that the 12.84 cm / 5.06 in side lies across the narrower hoop dimension.

Fabric and stabilizer

For stable woven cotton, linen or a smooth towel band, use a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer. Calculate the starting stabilizer weight with the formula fabric weight ÷ 3. For example, fabric weighing 180 g/m² requires approximately 60 g/m² stabilizer. Apply temporary spray adhesive to the stabilizer, attach the fabric and hoop both layers together.

When embroidering on terry cloth, add a water-soluble topping so the decorative stitches remain above the pile. Use cut-away stabilizer for stretchy or loosely woven fabric. Always make a test stitch on similar material before embroidering the final item. More technical information is available in the guide to choosing stabilizers for machine embroidery.

Digital embroidery formats

The downloadable ZIP archive includes DST, JEF, PEC, VIP, HUS, PES, SEW, EXP, DAT, XXX and VP3 files, together with the color chart. No physical towel, fabric or finished embroidery will be shipped.

Frequently asked questions

Does the download contain a complete continuous border?

The archive contains one repeatable border unit. Stitch additional units and align them at the connection point shown in the product images to create the required border length.

Will this design fit a 5 × 7 hoop?

It requires an actual embroidery field of at least 13 × 18 cm / 5.12 × 7.09 in. Some hoops marketed as 5 × 7 in have a narrower usable field, so check the machine specifications before purchasing.

Can the gold color be changed?

Yes. This is a one-color design, so the complete border can be stitched in any suitable embroidery thread color. Preserve adequate contrast between the thread and fabric so the latticework and paisley details remain visible.

Golden Buta Indian Border Machine Embroidery Design

Good morning, I have not tried this design yet. I downloaded the "Waves" and stitched it out yesterday. It turned out beautiful! However, I did have some trouble downloading this one. The zipped and the unzipped file converted into a JPEG, which my machine would not read. After struggling with it for several days, I opened it on my computer with my very expensive embroidery program and was able to convert it to a VP3. Did I do something wrong? Why did it not download in the format that I chose? I look forward to using your designs. Sincerely, Kittie Powell
