This collection features 12 separate Kings are born in… machine embroidery designs with a crown, one for each month of the year. Stitch the selected month on a men's bathrobe, bath towel, large pillow cover, sauna bag or grilling apron to create a birthday gift for a husband, dad, brother, son, friend or colleague. Each month is purchased separately; no finished item is included.
What to embroider for a man's birthday
A useful embroidered birthday gift usually has more value than a small decorative keepsake. These lettering designs are intentionally large: widths range from 117.8 to 129.4 mm (4.64 to 5.09 in), and heights range from 132.1 to 178.7 mm (5.20 to 7.04 in). They are suitable for a prominent central placement, but they are too large for a cap, cuff, pocket, napkin or small toiletry bag.

How to make a personalized embroidered birthday gift for him
The Kings are born in… phrase personalizes the gift by birth month without stating an age. The same design can therefore be used for an annual birthday or a 30th, 40th, 50th or 60th birthday. It creates a personal message without adding a name, date or long greeting to the embroidery file.
For a husband or partner, use a navy, black, charcoal or burgundy robe with a gold crown and a light-colored inscription.
For dad or grandfather, choose a practical bath towel, pillow cover or apron in dark green, navy or chocolate brown.
For a brother, son or friend, a charcoal sauna bag, gym bag or towel works well with a silver crown.
For a colleague or manager, a towel, apron or decorative pillow is more neutral; a bathrobe is best reserved for a close relationship.
For an item that will be washed frequently, stitch the lettering with 40 wt polyester thread. Use metallic thread only for the crown so the accent remains bright while the longer inscription stays soft and stable. Antique gold, bronze or cool silver creates a more restrained alternative to a highly reflective metallic thread.

Exact dimensions for all 12 designs
The length of the month name changes both the dimensions and stitch count. The original size lines below are preserved exactly as shown on the product pages. Before buying, compare both sides of the selected file with your machine's actual embroidery field.
All 12 files are nominally smaller than 130 × 180 mm (5.12 × 7.09 in), but some leave a critically small margin. September is 129.4x162.6 mm (5.09x6.40 "), leaving only 0.6 mm (0.02 in) of total width. December is 125.1x178.7 mm (4.93x7.04 "), leaving only 1.3 mm (0.05 in) of total height. A machine may reject the file if its usable field is smaller than stated, its format reserves an internal safety margin, or the manufacturer calls the hoop 5 × 7 even though the available sewing field is not a full 130 × 180 mm.
Check the machine manual for the actual sewing field before purchase. A 140 × 200 mm (5.51 × 7.87 in) field or larger gives every design in the collection a safer margin. See the guide to embroidery hoop sizes and sewing fields for the difference between a hoop's commercial name and its usable area.
How to embroider lettering on a men's robe or towel
For a terry towel, use a stable medium- or heavyweight tear-away stabilizer underneath; choose cut-away for loose or heavy terry. Add a water-soluble topper so the small letters remain above the pile.
For a bathrobe, do not stretch the fabric while hooping. Use a soft cut-away stabilizer for knit or elastic material.
For a gold or silver crown, use a #90–100 metallic needle and reduce the machine speed. Stitch the lettering with standard 40 wt polyester or rayon thread.
Do not resize the file automatically. Reducing a lettering design without recalculating the stitches can close the counters inside letters and make the small line unreadable.
Run a test stitch-out on the same fabric with the same stabilizer and topper. This reveals puckering, pile show-through and insufficient contrast before the final item is embroidered.
About the designer
Royal Present Embroidery designs are created by Ludmila Konovalova, a machine embroidery designer with more than 30 years of embroidery experience. Lettering digitizing involves more than selecting a font: stitch density and direction, open counters inside letters, color-block order and pull compensation must all be calculated. Designs are test-stitched before publication.
Frequently asked questions
What can I embroider for a man's birthday?
Stitch the large crown inscription on a bath towel, the back of a men's robe, a large pillow cover, a sauna bag or a grilling apron. These designs are too large for a cap, pocket, cuff, napkin or small toiletry bag.
Are all 12 months included in one purchase?
No. This category groups 12 separate digital products. Each product contains the Kings are born in phrase for one month, so select and purchase the required month on its product page.
Will these designs fit a 5 × 7 hoop?
Only if the machine provides the complete field required by the selected file. September is 129.4x162.6 mm (5.09x6.40 "), and December is 125.1x178.7 mm (4.93x7.04 "), so both leave very little margin in a 130 × 180 mm (5.12 × 7.09 in) field. Check the actual sewing field in the machine manual.
How do I keep small letters visible on a terry towel?
Use a stable stabilizer underneath and a water-soluble topper above the towel to hold the pile below the stitches. Do not reduce the design automatically, and test it on terry of the same weight before embroidering the final item.
Can I use metallic thread for the entire inscription?
Metallic thread is best reserved for the crown. Stitch the longer lettering with 40 wt polyester or rayon for softer, more stable text. Use a #90–100 metallic needle, lower the machine speed and test the tension before stitching the final project.
