As their name implies, these creatures can reach enormous sizes - some are as large as two meters long and can weigh up to 250 kilograms! They typically feed on cacti, fruits, grasses, lichens and occasionally small invertebrates. In addition to their size and diet, these turtles can live for over a hundred years! These species are endangered due to human interference from pollution, habitat destruction and exploitation. Thus people must take protective measures to ensure their survival.
