Another myth refers to the era of Ancient Rome. The Romans dedicated poppies to the goddess of agriculture, Ceres, as they often mixed with cereals in the fields. The goddess thought too much about the harvest and spent all the time on earth. She had almost no rest that made the other gods worry, so they planted poppies among crops. Ceres gathered a huge bouquet and fell asleep from the heady scent. The girl slept until the end of summer and woke up only when it was time to harvest.

In some species the ripe capsule bursts sharply, causing the seeds scatter in different directions. In others, they escape through the pores while the stem is swaying in the wind. Not surprisingly, with such fertility this plant sometimes captures very extensive areas.

Just imagine a whole field of bright red poppies… Agree, such a sight can bring a wave of emotions, especially if you add the setting sun or pinkish-orange dawn. If you like the image, the set POPPIES will be one of your favorite machine embroidery designs.
