Seashell Machine Embroidery Design

A seashell is probably the most popular keepsake to bring from vacation. Small and large shells of sea creatures take their places of honor at home to remind of summer holidays. Seashell Machine Embroidery Design from Royal Present Embroidery would serve the same purpose: wherever you place the embroidery, at the mere sight of it your imagination would picture the salty coastal air and light rustle of waves.

Beautiful on bath towels and beach totes!

Shells and their inhabitants are not as simple as they seem. The one that was used as a model for the design, apparently belonged to a gastropod mollusc, or as they are called, a snail. It’s not, of course, this tiny creature that eats cultivated plants in gardens. Some deep water species can reach impressive sizes. The largest of these is the Australian Trumpet. First place is the clam weighing 40 pounds with shell height of 90 centimeters! Now imagine the size of your dog and that snail would seem truly creepy…

As for the land snails, the largest of them is the Giant Tiger. There in the Guinness Book of Records is listed the specimen that had a shell of 11 inches. In the homeland of Tiger snails, in Africa, their numbers are rapidly decreasing, because local population is happy to use them for food.

If you like snails and you consider eating them as brutal, there is an interesting option. The Tiger snail can become an exotic pet, which is very trendy at present. With good conditions in a warm humid environment they live up to seven years.

With all the variety of shell forms that gastropods can make, they have a distinctive feature: all of them are coiled. Interestingly, most are twisted to the right.

To see in which direction the spiral of a shell goes, take it in hands and turn up the sharp end. If the entrance is located on the right side, the shell is twisted to the right, like the one in our design.

There is a version that classic right spiral plays a very important role in the food chain. Sea crabs, which feed on gastropod molluscs, are able to open their shells only with the right claw. So they fit together like a lock and key. However, evolutionary some molluscs have learnt to twist their “houses” to the left, to protect themselves from the attack of the arthropod predators.

Shells that go for Souvenirs are long abandoned by their inhabitants. Small ones are washed ashore, for the bigger specimens you have to dive. If you haven’t brought this beautiful souvenir from vacation, Seashell Machine Embroidery Design will be an excellent replacement. Made on a dark background and inserted in a frame, the embroidery is not worse than the original to decorate your desk, a shelf or a wall in the living room.
