Today we want to talk with you about how to embroider on flannel fabric.

Flannel is a soft fleecy fabric. As a rule, it is used for sewing home textiles. The flannel fabric was created in the 17th century, in cold and rainy Wales. The local craftsmen came up with a dense and warm cotton cloth to protect themselves from wind and dampness.

Until the middle of the XIX century, the flannel fabric was sewn only on a cotton base. Then wool was also used. This material has many advantages. It is very warm, absorbs moisture, and is very durable. Due to its soft pile flannel fabric is widely used as a basis for machine embroidery. Machine embroidery on the flannel cannot be called a complex embroidery project. Nevertheless, it is necessary to take into account certain features.

First, it is important to wash the fabric BEFORE embroidery. If this is not done, the cotton base will shrink. And the embroidery will be spoiled.

Secondly, the use of a stabilizer is mandatory.

Many embroiderers say that you can embroider on such a stable and non-elastic fabric without stabilizing it beforehand. This opinion is somewhat erroneous. Naturally, the first embroidered product will look beautiful. And imagine what look will it have after a few items of washing? Therefore, it is better to use a stabilizer.

For this kind of fabric is suitable as a tear-away, and a cut-away stabilizer. Nevertheless, if you are going to embroider on clothes, for example, pajamas, it is more advisable to take a cut-away stabilizer.

Third, for embroidery on flannel fabric, any design, from light and contour to embroidery with dense cover, is suitable.

Fourth, embroidering on flannels, it is better to use a pointed needle #75/11.
