The embroidery style Kalocsai appeared in the middle of the 19th century. Its source was Western European traditions of needlework. For a basis for this embroidery they usually used bleached or natural linen cloths. The nature surrounding the town with the same name became the traditional topic for art. Variety of flowers: roses, lilies, forget-me-nots and even young corncobs have formed the basis of an exceptional embroidery. Thin grape curls and magnificent clusters of grapes, their powerful juicy leaves, paprika plant brought a peculiar note to patterns.
