The process of embroidering these designs in the Richelieu technique is simple, but very interesting.

In the beginning, you should do the traditional stages of machine embroidery. We will refer to them:

~ Design marking with a printed template and marking accessories. Transferring the center of the embroidery and connecting the lines of the direction of the axes.

~ Stabilization. Do not forget that for this kind of embroidery projects, it is required to use the stabilizer both from above and from below. It is best to apply a dense water-soluble stabilizer as a lining, as well as a topping. This will allow to carefully dissolve it in water after embroidery. This is the most suitable method of stabilization for this technique. Excellent in this case, suitable stabilizers such as Madeira Avalon Ultra and Sulky Ultra Solvy.

Note: For embroidery in Richelieu’s technique, the design must be suitable and specially created for this. The usual designs for embroidery in the style of Richelieu are not suitable.

Hooping: Cloth should be hooped as usual, together with stabilizers.

And now the most interesting. The machine begins to embroider the design. The first step is embroidery of the contour. That is, it indicates the places where the slots will be made.

After you saw that the machine has embroidered the contour – stop it. Take sharp scissors or special scissors for Richelieu. Cut the fabric in the required places. This should be done very carefully, so as not to damage the stabilizer. Do not unhoop the fabric during it.

Then place the hoops back in the machine and embroider the design to the end.
