How to Embroider the Bunny on Children’s Clothing

1. Wash and dry the garment before embroidery to prevent later shrinkage around the design.
2. Print or open the design template at 100% scale and check the placement.
3. Keep the embroidery away from thick seams, pockets, fasteners and ribbed edges.
4. Use cut-away stabilizer on knitwear. It continues supporting the stitches after repeated washing.
5. Hoop the stabilizer and fabric without stretching the knit.
6. Use a new 75/11 embroidery needle and No. 40 embroidery thread.
7. Test the complete design on similar fabric before embroidering the finished garment.
8. After embroidery, trim the cut-away stabilizer carefully without cutting or pulling the fabric.

Do not use tear-away stabilizer as the only support for stretchy children’s knitwear. It may disappear from beneath the stitches after washing, allowing the fabric to stretch and the outlines to distort.

Protect Sensitive Skin from the Back of the Embroidery

The embroidery stabilizer used during stitching and the soft layer added afterward perform different jobs. The stabilizer supports the fabric and stitches. A cover-the-back material protects the child’s skin from knots, thread ends and the reverse side of the embroidery.

After completing the design and trimming the main stabilizer, fuse a lightweight protective backing over the entire reverse side of the embroidered area. Suitable products include Gunold Cover the Back and Sulky Tender Touch. Cut the protective piece slightly larger than the embroidery so that all thread ends are covered and follow the manufacturer’s temperature instructions.

Can You Resize This Free Embroidery Design?

Do not significantly enlarge or reduce the DST, PES, JEF or other machine-format file in ordinary embroidery software. These are stitch files prepared for a specific size. Depending on the program and format, changing their dimensions may scale the existing stitch coordinates without correctly rebuilding every embroidery object.

Reducing the design can make stitches too short and dense, produce thread breaks or create stiff areas. Enlarging it can leave visible gaps, excessively long stitches and incomplete coverage. Outline registration, underlay, pull compensation and small facial details may also be affected.
